Dr. Cohen has focused on enterprise adoption of new technologies such as cloud and Edge computing, digital twins and digital threads, and their impact on firms and the larger economy. He has led projects at the Economic Strategy Institute to evaluate the short- and long-term impacts of cloud services, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things on the U.S. economy and on jobs. He has published his findings in IEEE conference proceedings and on Research Gate. Dr. Cohen has consulted for companies such as Intel, IBM, Corning, Cisco, Lucent, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and Center on Transnational Corporations, the U.S. Senate Banking Committee. He was part of the MIT Future of the Auto Project and served on the Steering Committe of the Open Grid Forum. He is a founding member of the Internet Society and, together with Bill Schrader and Richard Mandelbaum, organized the New York State educational Internet, NYSERNet. He has served as a board member of the Medical Committee for Human Rights and advised CEOs of a number of startups including Election.com. He brings extensive expertise in how emerging computing and communications technologies affect specific firms and the US economy.
